Every Hollywood producer has one target in mind when they make a movie. They want to put out a motion picture that is a gigantic hit that the public loves. A terrific plot, some outstanding actors along with a few special effects and there you have the recipe for a huge box-office success. Or do you? Sometimes a motion picture will have all of the theoretical necessary components and it will still disappoint at the box office. There are no sure recipes to make a Hollywood chartbuster.
Lantana – Poignant, adult story of relationships obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose marriage has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he examines the disappearance of a lady whose own marriage is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)
My Son the Hero – Impressive motion picture in regards to sinister Emperor Cadmus of Thebes, who challenges the lords and faces the fury of the Titans. Cast includes Pedro Armendariz, Jacqueline Sassard, Antonella Lualdi, and Giuliano Gemma. (122 minutes, 1962)
Christmas Vacation – The Griswalds have big plans for the Holidays this year. Clark has invited a gathering of the relations over for the huge festivity. Clark’s hard works go laughably erroneous, par for the course for a Griswald holiday.
Company of Killers – Gunman (Saxon) performing for Kill Inc. gets to be target for his bosses and the city policemen after a key witness is shot down. Bites off more than it can handle. Cast includes Van Johnson, Ray Milland, John Saxon, Brian Kelly, Fritz Weaver, Clu Gulager, Susan Oliver, Diana Lynn, and Robert Middleton. (88 minutes, 1970)
Good to Go – Forgettable fare in reference to reporter Garfunkel, who’s framed on a rape-slaughter charge. Highlighted are the behaviors of such go-go groups as Redds & the Boys, Trouble Funk, Get rid of Brown & the Mind Scavengers, amid others. Cast includes Art Garfunkel, Robert Doqui, Harris Yulin, Reginald Daughtry, Richard Brooks, Hattie Winston, and Anjelica Huston. (87 minutes, 1986)
La Petit Lili – A family’s country house is charged with emotion while the hotheaded child, a yearning film maker actor, finds that his lady friend is fascinated with his mother’s boyfriend, a triumphant head of films. Radiant film empowered by Chekhov’s The Seagull, investigating the line between art and life, and how the 2 influence each other. Cast includes Nicole Garcia, Bernard Giraudeau, Jean-Pierre Marielle, Ludivine Sagnier, Robinson Steveniu, Julie Depardieu, Yves Jacques, and Michel Piccoli. (104 minutes, 2003)
The Seniors – 4 collegians open a false sex hospital, which mushrooms into a multi million dollar business. The movie is alternately stupid and sarcastic, with some harmless nudity thrown in. Cast includes Jeffrey Byron, Gary Imhof, Dennis Quaid, Lou Richards, PrisciIla Barnes, Alan Reed, Edward Andrews, Robert Emhardl, and Alan Hewitt. (87 minutes, 1978)
Fantasies – Crude gibberish in regards to Derek’s and Hooten’s attempts to turn a Greek island into a tourist trap. Shot in 1973, while Bo was sixteen. Cast includes Bo Derek, Peter Hooten, Anna Alexiadis, Phaedon Gheorghitis, and Therese Bohlin. (81 minutes, 1981)
