The Geneva Motor Show has been a hit for many reasons. Amongst them, chief reasons have been the focus on green technologies, and launch of newer models by almost all the automotive manufacturers. As many as 33 new models were launched on the first day of the show, thus making it one of the most active motor shows during slowdown.
One of the most interesting facets of the Geneva Motor Show has been the emergence of hybrids. And Porsche did not let its lovers feel bad by showcasing the 918 Spyder. One cursory glance at the 918 Spyder meant that the car merited a close discussion. It raised eyebrows and it captured the attention of news reporters and technical analysts as well.
Looking at its essentials, the Porsche 918 will have a hybrid technology engine. The concept car boasts of a 3.4 litre engine that is capable of generating a 500 bhp raw power. It can zip past from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Top speed is 198 mph and fuel efficiency is 78 mpg. And if you are a follower of automotive industry, then these essentials will drive you nuts. CO2 emissions are expected in the range of 70 gm/Km, thus making it cleaner than many other hybrid variants. A 7-speed PDK gearbox powers the car. Weight of the car is 3250 lbs and this is chiefly because of predominant use of aluminium and magnesium in body parts.
Spyder can be driven in 4 modes. A pure electric mode allows the car to be driven on electric mode. There is a Hybrid mode, Sport hybrid mode and Race hybrid mode that compliment varying levels of power. The car also has a ‘Range Manager’ that can use a satellite system to guide the driver and help him find out the distance he can drive using the electric mode.
Spyder will also have a ‘Range Manager’ that will let the driver know if he can reach his destination by driving the car in electric mode. The car is expected to have 4 modes ranging from pure electric mode, hybrid mode, Sport hybrid mode and the Race Hybrid mode. All these modes have carrying levels of power that will drive the car. All this makes Spyder a super-car that one should not miss.
